"A democratic society depends upon an informed and
educated citizenry." - Thomas Jefferson
The purposes
of the Legacy of Liberty program, created in 2003,
are
• to
create awareness and
• to build support
for Law-Related
Education or LRE.
Legacy of
Liberty Regions
In telling the LRE story around the state, the Foundation
has created 12 Legacy of Liberty regions where lawyers
and other citizens may learn about specific programs
and LRE successes in their own geographic areas.
For example, a Legacy of Liberty luncheon in North
Platte
featured Mock Trial students from the North Platte,
Hershey, and Ogallala schools telling in their
own words how LRE
opportunities have changed their high school experiences.
Local attorneys invited the guests, and more than
85 members of the legal community and others interested
in LRE attended the luncheon sponsored by the First
National
Bank of North Platte. See regional Legacy of Liberty
brochures below.
Through
events such as this one and communications via the
Law & Learning newsletter
and the Foundation’s
website, thousands of Nebraska citizens have become
aware of the good work the Foundation is doing
by educating the youth of our state to become informed
and engaged
citizens.
