NSBF :: Mock Trial

Welcome to the 2009 - 2010 Nebraska High School Mock Trial Competition. This year’s case was a civil case involving a foreign citizen in a removal proceeding, who was seeking asylum on that basis that s/he would be subject to persecution upon return to his/her country of origin. The process for this asylum seeker was complicated by evidence that s/he was an actor in persecution him/herself under the now deposed government of his/her country.

Each year, a group of Nebraska attorneys research and author an original case. The 2009 Case Committee was chaired by Lincoln attorney Thomas E. Keefe and Omaha attorney Michael D. Gooch. Other members included Lincoln attorneys Kristi Egger-Brown, Stephanie Hupp, John Jelkin, Joel Nelson, and Lori Pasold. University of Nebraska College of Law Professor Kevin Ruser served as a special consultant to the writers of the case.
