Mock Trial Update May 2020

Covid-19 can't keep Mock Trial down!

Each year more than 1,000 students and teachers from schools across Nebraska take part in the Judge Lyle Strom High School Mock Trial Program. The Nebraska State Bar Foundation has been working on tentative plans for this year’s mock trial competition. Plans for an in-person mock trial competition to a mock trial competition done virtually are being reviewed. We will be taking into account school district guidelines and also social distancing policies and health advisories. The dates for the mock trial season have not yet been set.

The dates for the next three National High School Mock Trial Championships are:

2021 (Evansville, IN): May 13-15

2022 (Kalamazoo, MI: May 5-7

2023 (Little Rock, AR): May 18-20

Like many of you, we are also doing a lot by Zoom. The Nebraska High School Mock Trial Case Committee meets often and talks through the case.

The Case Committee is led by the Hon. Karen Flowers, retired (Lincoln), who served as Chair, and Stephanie Hupp (Lincoln), who served as Vice Chair. Members included Stan Beeder (Lincoln), Kristi Egger (Lincoln), Michael Gooch (Omaha), Mark Richardson (Lincoln) and Cameron Guenzel (Lincoln).
